Printing a magazine is shockingly easy (Blaugust2026/7)

Last month I thought about magazines with bonus discs in them and I wondered how much it would cost to make my own, I mean if a publishing company can sell magazines (sometimes with discs in them) for 6€ then what would it cost for me to do the same thing?

So I looked into it and was shocked at how affordable it actually is... or would be if I did have the money because apparently it would cost around 1000€ to print 300 magazines (excluding taxes and shipping) and another 1500€ to have pressed CDs (pressed, not burned, important difference).

The CD price I don't take too seriously because I only got that from an "AI" overview and didn't actually look into that part.

There are a lot of printing companies and they charge wildly differing prices for different configurations and quantities.

After finding this stuff out I went into Scribus and threw together something that I could use as a proof of concept (the concept being that I'm able to do this) for my idea. I ended up putting in doodles and drawings of mine that I made when I was still in year 12 of school (and when i say "in" i mean i made them during classes). I have neither used Scribus before nor tried out print graphic design ever, so

I used the printing service of some company which only charges 10€ for a single magazine (or well technically it's a 'brochure') and after 2 weeks, this is what I got:

I was honestly amazed how easy it would be to have this printed, for some reason I imagined it would be a lot more expensive and it wouldn't be as easy as putting the PDF into a web interface and adjusting some settings. In hindsight it makes sense, since doctors and dentists very often have their own brochures lying around in their... practice (didnt know that word, had to look it up).

So yeah, maybe I'll start a magazine in the next 3 years and sell physical copies of it...
